Mining

SIMCO has invested in two Marble Projects: Mong Son VII White Stone Marble and Nayputaung Marble in Myanmar.

1. Mong Son VII White Stone Marble (Yen Binh, Yen Bai province).

Mong Son VII marble (white limestone) is located in Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province. This is an area that is considered to have the best quality and quantity of white marble (also known as white limestone) in Vietnam. Currently, the mine is being exploited and processed by a number of companies, including Mong Son VII mine of SIMCO - FANSIPAN Mineral Joint Stock Company.

Mong Son VII has a total area of 27.45 hectars, including 17.6 ha mining field and 9.85 ha production auxiliary area (including material gathering ground, mine depot, office area and some other ancillary works).

Currently, the mine has a convenient system of roads and 35kV national electricity grid. The location of Mong Son VII is about 40 km from the center of Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province by road; The mine is located next to a deep water port, so it is more convenient for water transportation than others in the area.

The mine is next to the deep-water port, very convenient for product transportation.

According to the mineral exploration report of Mong Son VII, which was approved by the National Mineral Reserve Evaluation Council in Decision No. 735/QD-HDTLKS dated 22/7/2010, the total reserve of white marble reachs the target of making calcium carbonate powder grade 121 + 122 is 47,594,000 tons, of which:

- Level 121 reserves are 8,277,000 tons;

- Level 122 reserves are 39,317,000 tons.

The quality of white marble from Mong Son VII is as follows:

- CaCO3 content ≥ 98% (In which CaO ≥ 54%);

- Fe2O3 content ≤ 0.01 %;

- SiO2 content ≤ 0.03 %;

- Whiteness: 85 - 98%.

Commencement of basic construction of Mong Son VII mine from January 9, 2019. As of April 30, 2022, about 95% of the basic construction volume has been completed. Many works such as transport route to mine depot, construction of mine depot, product storage yard, port, transportation route No. 1 and route of moving equipment No. 1 have been completed. Currently in terms of infrastructure, the transportation route from the port to the Mong Son VII mine site, from cos +50 to cos +276 has completed.

Currently, Sifaco and the construction units have just explored and exploited the mines at the location of Shovel No. 2 (cos +320), showing signs of white stone body with little impurities, at the same time, it has been determined that there is high quality block stone.

In the second, third and fourth quarters of 2022, mines will be exploited at shovel No. 2, and at the same time, the mining route will be completed. The selling of marble stone block could be started in third and fourth quarters of 2022.

2. Nayputaung Marble Project in Myanmar

Signing ceremony of investment in Marble Block project under the witness of leaders of Myanmar and Vietnam.

Nayputaung Marble Block project is one of the 03 key projects between the two Governments of Vietnam and Myanmar. The mine is located in the Nay Pu Taung mountain, 700km Northwest of Yango city (Myanmar). This is one of the largest marble quarries of Myanmar.

Main information:

- Mine location: Nayputaung Mountains, Taunggok Town, Rakhie State, Myanmar

- Mine area: 273 ha

- Reserve: 87 million tons (equivalent to 32,103,321 m3)

- Hardness: 3.5-4 Moh

- Stable composition, uniform color;

- Basically, marble rarely has secondary changes, has little stamping and has low cracking density, high block stone recovery rate.

- Chemical composition:

      CaO: 49.56% MgO: 0.76%

      SiO2: 6.01% Al2O3: 1.51% Fe2O3: 1.12%

- Physico-mechanical composition:

       Hardness (Moh): 3.5 Abrasion: 7.8%

       Density: 2.7g/cm3 Moisture absorption: 0.25%

       Permeability: 0.74% Compressive strength: 682.5kg/cm2

- Color: Nayputaung marble has 3 basic colors: dark gray, light gray and chocolate brown.

- Nayputaung stone sample representing Myanmar marble is displayed at Yangon Gem Museum.

- Product capacity:

    Production of marble blocks: 30,000m3/year;

    Production of marble slabs: 100,000m2/year.

Some pictures of Marble block products in Myanmar

Due to the problem of infrastructure and development policy of Myanmar in recent years are not favorable, the deployment of investment in mining this quarry is not favorable. Currently, Mysico (a joint venture between SIMCO and Viet Trang to implement the project) is working with partners from Germany and China to negotiate transfering of this project. Sawn stone products have been exported to these partners in the past.
